Next in our meet the team series is Chris Verner, our Maintenance Manager who heads up the technical team in our large equipment division. Chris describes himself as “well rounded” as he’s both “organised and outgoing”. When Chris isn’t managing our equipment engineering team on our wide range of Hilltip & saturator products, he loves travelling, playing various sports and coaching his sons football team.

Chris’s Role

Chris says his day-to-day job includes a bit of everything.  His role is multifaceted, from managing the large equipment team to installations and maintenance, training and visiting customers onsite. Joining Peacock Salt almost 10 years ago, Chris is our resident mechanical engineer and spent some of his early career working on huge ships so it seems like fate that he join a company which began in shipbuilding and brokering. Once a lone ranger in his department, Chris has since developed our large equipment team and now manages 5 skilled engineers.

Chris said his dream job is to be a professional football player or golfer. But with a handicap of 9 (and increasing), a more realistic option Chris said would to be an accountant. Before he was offered his mechanical apprenticeship, he accepted a job to become an accountant.

A piece of advice for Chris’s younger self

“Hard work pays off” And after nearly a decade with Peacock Salt we can attest to Chris’s hard working nature and dedication. 

Life outside of work 

When he’s not working, Chris is a busy dad of two sons to whom he has passed on his love of football and who both play for the team he coaches.  His love for football has continued as he regularly plays with the Peacock football team.  If its not football, its golf and he can often be found in the canteen practising his golf swing. He’s a retired karaoke extraordinaire (although we are sure he could be persuaded at the next work event – stay tuned) and he also loves travelling and planning his next holiday.
