Meet the Team: Gillian
At Peacock Salt, every member of our team plays a pivotal role in our success. And our Meet the Team series speaks to different people from across our numerous teams, to find out more about their roles and day to day activities. This time, it was the turn of Gillian Cooke, who is a Sales Manager here at Peacock Salt.
Gillian’s role
Gillian joined Peacock Salt 17 years ago – so she really has come to have a depth of understanding of the business. A Sales Manager within the ‘non-winter’ side of the business (‘winter’ side being salt-based products that cater to de-icing), Gillian is responsible for the sale of a number of products across a variety of markets, including our water-softening range.
Recently, Gillian was a key part of our opening a new warehouse in Astmoor which in turn was an important development for the growth of the business. Her day-to-day responsibilities are incredibly varied, but Gillian says that despite the 17 years of service, every year is different and there are always new things to learn – an easier job when you work with a great, supportive team!
If Gillian wasn’t at Peacock Salt, she’d be…
A nature conservationist or an artist, preferably somewhere sunny and pretty like Cornwall or the South of France! Although Gillian identifies one huge problem with the latter, she, ‘can’t paint for toffee!’. Her colleagues say a bigger problem would be that she can’t sit still for long!
A piece of advice for Gillian’s younger self
Before Gillian joined Peacock Salt, she held the role of Business Manager for a large manufacturing company. The jump to a Sales role was a daunting one, but one she’s glad she made.
Her advice to her younger self would therefore be to embrace change and concentrate on the opportunities that it brings!
Life outside of work
Gillian enjoys spending time in her garden and as time goes on, she’s becoming a bit of a keen gardener! Taught a little by her Mum, the hobby is quite literally growing on her, but in her words, she’s got some way to go yet as she’s “no Monty Don!”.
