The next person in our Meet the Team Series is Janice McKellar who is our Receptionist and Admin Assistant. The first point of contact for many customers and visitors, Janice is the life and soul of the Peacock Salt office, and also the voice! As an alto singer with Ayr Amateur Opera Company, she is often heard before she is seen but must be seen to be believed. When we’re not marvelling at her musicality in the office, Janice is fit as a flea and a member of a local running club. Janice tells us more below.

Janice’s role

Janice joined Peacock Salt 9 years ago. Her day-to-day role includes manning the phones, collecting customer and order information, directing calls and messages to the correct person, keeping stationary stocked, greeting visitors, and much more.

If Janice wasn’t at Peacock Salt she’d be…

Over the years, Janice has had many different jobs in different sectors, highlights include working in a bar, being landlady of a B&B, working as a registered childminder and also a fundraising officer for a local charity where she created an online auction which raised more than £25,000. A very impressive CV indeed. She also was fortunate enough to become a stay at home Mum to 4 children and is now a Gran to 3 grandsons.

A piece of advice for Janice’s younger self

Nothing, she wouldn’t change a thing. Janice has a lot of wisdom so if she is saying that, then it must be true!

Outside of work

As a keen member of a running club with countless full and half marathons under her belt, Janice has competed in the past at district level in both half marathon and 10K. She continues to train with Ayr Seaforth Athletic Club a few times a week. She also loves to keep active by going hillwalking, swimming, and gardening. As mentioned, With Ayr Amateur Opera Company, Janice and has taken part in many musical productions over the years, next up ‘Rock of Ages’. Like most people Janice also loves a sunshine holiday – especially one with plenty of walking. She did say she is winding down but not slowing down!
